Strategic Operations and Supply Chain Expertise for Industrial Environments

Projects play a central role in everyday industrial practice. This course provides a structured introduction to the nature of projects and to the methods needed to design and implement them effectively in an industrial context.

Students explore key dimensions of project management, including project leadership, optimization goals, teamwork, planning, scheduling, and project control. The course is applicable to different types of projects, the examples used focus primarily on product development and investment projects.

This course can be booked individually and is part of the Master's degree “Industrial Management in Microelectronics (M. Sc.)”.

Course Overview

  • Foundations of Project Management: Core concepts of projects and project management, including objectives, resources, project types, the product design cycle, and the product life cycle
  • Process Organization & Work Packages: Structuring project tasks, defining work packages, and understanding project roles, responsibilities, and competencies
  • Leadership, Team Dynamics & Crisis Management: Team and group processes, personality traits, leadership within projects, and managing complex situations and crises
  • Project Planning, Scheduling & Control: Time scheduling, cost- and capacity-oriented process design, risk management, and the application of project management tools and software

Objectives

Participants are able

  • to differentiate between project, project management, objectives, resources, types of projects, product design cycle and product life cycle
  • to organize and structure processes
  • to understand project task, parts and work packages as well as project players and their competences
  • to apply different project management tools
  • to understand team and group processes, personality traits, managing complex situations and crises
  • to apply project planning and time scheduling
  • to design cost and capacity-oriented processes
  • to control projects including risk management
  • to apply project management software.

Teaching format

The contents of the module are dealt with in the form of lectures, tutorial practices as well as self-study. For a better understanding of the contents, case studies in the form of group works are carried out.
