Connecting Research and Clinical Practice
With Maurice Rütters, the new Master’s program gains a lecturer whose work brings together several perspectives that are essential to modern periodontal and implant therapy.
He has been working in the Department of Periodontology at Heidelberg University Hospital for more than a decade, combining patient care with research and university teaching. He is a certified specialist in periodontology by the German Society of Periodontology (DG PARO) and has also completed the implantology curriculum of the German Society of Implantology (DGI).
His scientific work focuses particularly on modern dental imaging and the diagnosis of periodontal and peri-implant structures. His research also addresses topics such as the long-term preservation of periodontally compromised teeth and digital approaches to periodontal care. In 2023, he completed his habilitation on novel imaging techniques for the diagnosis of periodontal structures and oral diseases; in March 2026, he was appointed adjunct professor at Heidelberg University.
International Expertise for a Practice-Oriented Master’s Program
This combination of research, teaching, and clinical experience reflects the approach of “Periodontology & Implant Therapy (M.Sc.)”.
Designed for practicing dentists, the part-time degree program combines weekly online learning with intensive clinical training. Around 75 hours of hands-on sessions across three clinical blocks in Dresden and Ferrara give students the opportunity to develop advanced periodontal and implantological skills under the guidance of experienced international specialists.
The curriculum ranges from evidence-based diagnostics and treatment planning to periodontal surgery, implant therapy, peri-implant diseases, and interdisciplinary treatment concepts. Selected procedures are also performed on patients under expert supervision.
With Maurice Rütters joining the teaching team, another experienced specialist will contribute current scientific perspectives and clinical expertise to this international learning environment.
